As the Communications & Marketing Director at Waterkeeper Alliance, Maia strengthens and amplifies the voice of the international Waterkeeper movement by building brand recognition and increasing the reach of its marketing and communications. By identifying emerging technologies and trends, she ensures that Waterkeeper Alliance continues to be a relevant and impactful nonprofit.
Maia grew up on Connecticut’s Branford River, volunteering with local environmental groups whose work focused on the estuary and surrounding wetlands. She received her BA from The New School with a concentration in Urban Environmental Policy & Sustainability, focusing her study on environmental health, justice, and anthropology. After graduation, she spent a year in AmeriCorps working as a CSA organizer for the New York City Coalition Against Hunger (now Hunger Free America). Before joining Waterkeeper Alliance, she was the Marketing Manager at Brooklyn Brewery, where she oversaw social media, press relations, marketing initiatives, and community partnerships. She lives in Brooklyn with her adorable son and stepson, handsome husband, rescue dog, and giant cat.
